This Valentine’s Day is definitely a low-budget endeavour. After many years of penny pincher holidays, I have come to enjoy the challenge and creativity involved. This year we are staying in and finding ways to celebrate our love without spending much.
For dinner, I pulled out a porterhouse steak that I will make under the broiler. Now it may sound like we splurged with buying a costly steak but in fact it came from a Christmas Gift. Every Christmas my Mother In Law purchases half a cow and splits it 3 ways. (her,us, and my brother-in-law’s family) It is one of those gifts that really keeps on giving.
I love chocolate covered strawberries. One of the first Valentine’s days me and my hubby (then boyfriend) celebrated was in Chicago. We went to see a concert where they played music from the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s. He brought me a box of chocolate covered strawberries and flowers. Now every Valentine’s Day I get a major craving for chocolate covered strawberries. They are really expensive to buy already made up so me and my hubby made a batch of them last night and I threw in some chocolate covered bananas as well. They were easy and fun to make! I must warn you though they are pretty messy.
I fell back on a couple of talents and resources to create gifts for Valentine’s Day. First thing I made was a super cheesy but super cute video montage to Can’t Go Back Now by The Weepies.
I also composed a poem.
A Man’s Heart
In old school fashion, I composed a mixed CD :
- The Dress Looks Nice On You by Sufjan Stevens
- To Be Alone With You by Sufjan Stevens
- Happiness by The Fray
- When You Say Nothing At All by Allison Krauss
- Happily Ever After In Your Eyes by Ben Harper
- When She Believed by Ben Harper
- Love Never Fails by Brandon Heath
- Near To You by A Fine Frenzy
- If I Ever Leave This World Alive by Flogging Molly
- Her( In Your Arms) by Hellogoodbye
- Oh It Is Love by Hellogoodbye
- Can’t Go Back Now by The Weepies
- Breakable by Ingrid Michaelson
- Take Me To The Riot by Stars
- Silver Lining by Rilo Kiley
- How You Survived The War by The Weepies
- The Crane Wife 3 by The Decemberists
- Star Mile by Joshua Radin
I really enjoy making gifts from the heart. When I look back over the years the things that really stand out are the small things that have the most thought behind them. My valentine is great at gifts from the heart. I am abundantly blessed with a wonderful husband.
